“This agreement is very much appreciated and I congratulate both sides. Thank you for your reference to the recent ILO Convention 190, which was recently adopted in June. This is the first time I have mentioned it in an official document. Today, Umicore and IndustriALL Global Union renewed their Global Framework Agreement on Sustainable Development for a period of four years. The agreement covers human rights (including collective bargaining and equal opportunities), safe and healthy working conditions and environmental considerations. Umicore has implemented policies and measures relating to human rights, workers` right to collective organization and bargaining, equal opportunities and non-discrimination, the prohibition of child labour, and the prohibition of forced labour, in accordance with International Labour Organization (ILO) standards. These commitments are supported by a comprehensive framework agreement on sustainable development with the World Industrial Union. Umicore also pursues a specific policy for “a global supply chain responsible for minerals from conflict zones and high risk.” IndustriALL was established on 19 June 2012 and brings together associations affiliated with the former global trade union federations: International Metalworkers` Federation (IMF), International Federation of Chemical, Energy, Mine and General Workers` Unions (ICEM) and International Textiles Garment and Leather Workers` Federation (ITWFGL). IndustriALL Global Union represents 50 million workers in 140 countries in the mining, energy and processing industries. We engage the services of UK suppliers to support our business and promote long-term, long-term relationships for both parties with these suppliers. Umicore is committed to sectoral initiatives such as the Cobalt Industry Risk Assessment Framework at the Cobalt Institute and has contributed to the creation of the Global Battery Alliance of the World Economic Forum. The Global Framework Agreement was first signed in 2007 and renewed in 2011 and 2015 respectively. The 2019 renewal is the third. The renewed agreement covers human rights, including collective bargaining and equal opportunities, with a new section on violence and harassment in the workplace, in reference to the RECENT ILO Convention 190, safe and healthy working conditions and environmental issues.
The agreement also adds important provisions relating to due diligence in the cobalt supply chain and digital transformation.
